January Monthly Reflection

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God

(Philippians 4:6)

Welcome to 2018!!!

Another year has passed us and another year has begun and like with any other year we start this year thinking about our hopes, dreams and maybe expectations.

The one thing for all of us is that none us really know what the year will hold, but I want to encourage each one of us to hold onto this verse that we will have for the church for this coming year.

It is a verse that is perhaps easier said than done, but to not be anxious, to not be afraid, to not live in fear, can only happen when we root everything we do, and are, and have, in prayer. As we pray we will experience the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and it is a peace that goes beyond all human understanding, and we need this peace and strength as we look forward to living out this year in 2018.

There are three things for us to think about as we focus on prayer this year:

  • Always pray. Never stop praying. In everything let us bring our prayers to God. Never be to busy to pray.
  • As we think about goals we might set ourselves this year, let us consider how we can develop and build upon the prayers lives that we have.
  • We need to intercede for others. Bring out petitions before God. And so I want to encourage us as a church in our own personal prayers but also in our prayers together as God's family. There is power in praying together as God's family. And so as we face the different challenges of 2018 let us be a church that is rooted in prayer. Let us seek opportunities to develop and be creative in the ways that we pray together as a church fellowship here at BFC.

Prayers change lives - let us put prayer at the centre of all that we do in 2018.

Pray with thanksgiving. Let us never stop being thankful to God for His amazing love and presence in our lives. God is good, He is faithful and His compassion is new every morning.

Whatever 2018 holds for us individually or as a church let me encourage us to pray throughout this year and may we see God doing amazing things in and through our lives.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory.

Forever and ever. Amen

Please be assured of my prayers and my support for you all as we go through 2018. Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus and may God bless you all with His presence and His love in this coming year.

With love and prayers
