Monthly Reflection for October 2017

As I prepare to write another monthly reflection I am reflecting on just how quickly seasons come and go. Here in the church as I talk with the different people over the last few days, we all seem to be struggling with colds again as the weather begins to change.

And yet in each of the seasons there is so much beauty and the seasons remind us of just how great our God is. Autumn and winter always bring their challenges and yet we see another side to the beauty and majesty of God's creation.

As we reflect on the changes of the seasons I want to leave this for us to think about this month:

So is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose
for which I sent it.
You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace
(Isaiah 55: 11-12)

God's word never changes and God is at work in and through each one of us and it is exciting to see what God is doing. Harvest is a time to remember that God is the one who provides and He is the one who helps things to grow. We must remember to hold onto these promises of Scripture: God is in control and things will grow if we are faithful to be people that sow the seeds.

I want to encourage us all as we fulfil God's work, as we speak out God's word, none of what we are doing or will be doing is ever wasted; we trust that God is with us in all of the different places that God has put us in.

Let us be faithful to being His servants in today's world: He is the Lord of the harvest and He will take the lives that each one of us are living and use our lives to bring change and transformation to those we are called to serve and live amongst. Do not give up doing the good things God has called us to.

The final part of this verse is that God will lead us out in joy and peace and that is my prayer as we seek to continue doing God's work that we will have a joy and peace about our lives and trust that everything we are doing for the Lord will bring a fruitful harvest and bring many blessings into people lives as they encounter God's word through the lives that we are living.

Let me leave us with a quote that Jean Sheppard shared with us on Sunday 17th September: "no Bible, no breakfast" is something her Sunday School teacher encouraged her to think about: feed on God's word at the beginning of each day, so that we can be people that live out God's word in every situation that we might face.

We experience true joy and true peace when we are fed by God's amazing word to us: so in this month let me encourage us all, to read more of God's word to us so that we might become even more effective in the work that the Lord has called each one of us to.

Let us continue to pray for all the different areas of church life where we are having the opportunity to share God's word, let us pray that through the Holy Spirit, more lives will be changed, and let us take every opportunity we have to study God's word together and to respond to his call to be people that share the word of God in every season of our lives.

May this autumn season bring us much joy as we experience the wonder and the beauty of God's word in our lives.

With love and prayers
